I just saw today that [livejournal.com profile] white_serpent had uploaded two of their fabulous Drarry stories to AO3:

favicon Take These Lies ( R | 34,600 )
Repeatedly rejected by the Auror training programme, Draco Malfoy attempts an unorthodox method of gaining admission.
Originally written for 2010 [livejournal.com profile] hd_fan_fair fest. Note: contains genderswap and dubious consent, both of which were requested in the prompt.

favicon You Can Have My Everything ( NC-17 | 8,000 )
Sometimes it takes a little pain to break through the apathy. General warnings: Rough sex/BDSM, Angst (and lots of it), 1st person/present tense.
Originally written for the 2011 [livejournal.com profile] dracotops_harry fest.

I've recced both of these before, on my "Best of 2010" and "Best of 2011" lists, as well as my Identity Unknown rec list.

I'm always so happy when fandom classics get uploaded to AO3! If you haven't read these before, now would be a perfect opportunity to do so. If you have, then go leave kudos and comments in encouragement :)

So I have this little bookmarklet thingy I set up to quickly check for new Drarry works on AO3. I've set the parameters to only show me completed works in English:

Search for completed Drarry

The total number of Drarry fics found is in the upper left-hand corner. I've watched it steadily increase over time, and it's been in the 9,000's for months and months. Well sometime in the early hours of today (October 11) the number of Drarry fics crossed over to 10,000!

Am I the only one who thinks this is cool?

[livejournal.com profile] slythindor100's Last Drabble Writer Standing competition is nearly over, and all this voting on drabbles has made me think Deep Thoughts (TM) about the ideal way to post such things to AO3 (because I think it's great when authors post their works to AO3, and I hope all the LDWS authors will do so after the competition ends!)

There seem to be three schools of thought when it comes to posting LDWS drabbles to AO3, and each has their merits and drawbacks:

This is the sort of thing I spend way too much time thinking about!

Clearly the third option is the most popular one, and there are good reasons why that would be. However, I can see a strong argument for using the second format instead, as it will lead to far less clutter a more compact listing of fics in your list of works, especially considering that you might not consider drabbles to be of equal importance to novel-length fics.

But of course, it's up to each author to do what they think best. I'm curious if anyone else cares about these things, and what your preferred method would be!

(thanks to [livejournal.com profile] capitu for brainstorming some of the pros and cons with me!)

Anybody know what's happened to www.thequidditchpitch.org?

It seems like every few months another classic fanfic archive is in danger of closing. I know that these archives have nostalgic value (and indeed, as someone who's very concerned about accurate dating and records, I prefer having the original places of publication still available online) but it really seems to me that it would be prudent to try to get the owners of these sites to allow transfer to AO3 through the Open Doors project. Short term solutions like funding drives are just that - short term, and I worry about the long term availability of these fics.

But I'm pretty new here, so what do I know?

HPFandom and TheHexFiles are looking for volunteers!

HPF & THF

The fanfiction archives HPFandom and TheHexFiles are both looking for volunteers to help move fics over to Archive Of Our Own (AO3) using the Open Doors project.

[livejournal.com profile] separatrix, HPF & THF's owner, will not be able to take on this project herself due to health issues so it's up to us fans to come together and move as much as we can in only 3 months before both sites close permanently.

If you are seriously interested in helping out please drop a comment at either [livejournal.com profile] hpfdotnet or [livejournal.com profile] hex_companion and let us know.

Useful links for someone thinking about volunteering:
The Open Doors Special Collections Gallery - Archives saved with Open Doors, where the archives will end up, hopefully.
Importing Works with an Archivist Account - A tutorial of what we'll be doing.
The archives use an early version of eFiction so each chapter has a different ID number so chaptered fics will need to be imported differently than oneshots.
- How do I import a chaptered work? (Up to 100 chapters at a time.)
- How do I import multiple works in one go? (Up to 10 oneshots at a time.)
